Another fine day in paradise. Leisurely start then out to a local farmers market. Some great stuff on display. Stocked up with bread, hot-cross buns, fresh salmon, wine, paella!!
Got home and ate the paella, then went out to a bit of a “do”. Summer Opera at Ayrlies. Ayrlies Garden is a bit of a “Garden of Eden”, created from an empty field. Work started in 1964 so the garden is now very well established with big trees. The gardens make for a wonderful setting for the performances. I was really impressed with the sound system which made it a real pleasure to listen to the music. It was a very varied programme. The first half was classic opera and not all the obvious ones. Quite a number of pieces were completely unknown to me. The second half was a bit more popular opera but even then some unfamiliar (to me) pieces were included.
It was all very enjoyable and we had seven singers, All shown here on the stage at the same time giving it a real good go, but they were all sopranos so it got a bit “samey”. Would have been better if a few chaps were involved. Also there was only one accompanist. A few more musicians would have made it all a lot better. But, having said that, it was a lovely afternoon. The weather was once again brilliant so we had to move a few times seeking new shelter from the sun.
I could really get used to this life-style!
